The synchronous motor normally has a small inductive component on the rotor to enable motor starting since the pure synchronous motor has zero torque at rest.

The impeller spins at high speed and imparts a velocity to the air. The diffuser surrounds the impeller and acts to convert the kinetic energy of the air into potential energy at a higher pressure level.
